"From out of the dark"

From Out Of The Dark

From out of the dark is a collection of 6 songs finished during the infamous Covid lockdown of 2020, drawing musical influences from many different genres and based on different themes close to my heart.

Some with a narrative, others about how I felt a particular junction in life, playing music, writing and recording songs has been a great outlet for me and helped me deal with and express myself in a productive fashion.

With no single genre over the six songs I decided to put them out as From out of the dark, to show how something good can come from the darkness. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed making them.

I appreciate so much all the friends and family who have helped critique these tracks ready for public consumption. Thanks also to my younger sister, Hannah, for providing her vocal talents and lyric writing on two of the songs.

#FragileThings by Neil Gaiman mini spoiler free book review

Fragile Things: Short Fictions and WondersFragile Things: Short Fictions and Wonders by Neil Gaiman

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Fragile thinks is an interesting compilation or short and very short stories and poems from the unique imagination of Neil Gaiman.

I love a good anthology and Fragile Things doesn't disappoint, ranging from the downright depressing and melancholy, to the weird and wonderful and hits on the fearful and exciting en route.

There are some really interesting pieces here, such as "Strange Little Girls", a story to accompany Tori Amos' music of the same name; The Problem Of Susan, a story written about the character of Susan from the Narnia stories where she gets the short straw out of her brothers and sisters.

I really enjoyed Good Boys Deserve Favours, a story about a schoolboy choosing to play the most unwieldy of instruments, the double bass. The concluding Monarch Of The Glen story is the longest inclusion as a part of the American Gods universe. I've never read the American Gods stories but think I will be after really enjoying this Novella.

These are just a few of my highlights, but Gaiman keeps the collection truly eclectic, and despite the occasional typical Gaiman waffle, is mostly beautifully written. His poetry in particular took my surprise at how much I enjoyed or appreciated it.

Recommended for fans of fantasy fiction who aren't averse to a good collection of shorter stories.
