"From out of the dark"

From Out Of The Dark

From out of the dark is a collection of 6 songs finished during the infamous Covid lockdown of 2020, drawing musical influences from many different genres and based on different themes close to my heart.

Some with a narrative, others about how I felt a particular junction in life, playing music, writing and recording songs has been a great outlet for me and helped me deal with and express myself in a productive fashion.

With no single genre over the six songs I decided to put them out as From out of the dark, to show how something good can come from the darkness. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed making them.

I appreciate so much all the friends and family who have helped critique these tracks ready for public consumption. Thanks also to my younger sister, Hannah, for providing her vocal talents and lyric writing on two of the songs.

#TheGreatestLoveStoryEverTold by Nick Offerman & Megan Mullally mini spoiler free book review

The Greatest Love Story Ever ToldThe Greatest Love Story Ever Told by Megan Mullally

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Two of the most genuinely lovely funny people on the planet: Nick Offerman, known as Ron Swanson from Parks and Recreation and Megan Mullally, known as Karen Walker from Will and Grace and one half of the band Nancy and Beth, collect a series of conversations with each other and short essays independently written about the history of their relationship, and what they both feel makes it work for them and makes life worth living.

Though definitely not a self help book, the pearls of wisdom the couple share are ones of common sense and definitely useful, and it's quite affirming to hear about their successes. How they're not boning 24/7 but maybe spending time listening to audio books and doing jigsaw puzzles; how they have a 2 week rule with work to make sure they see each other regularly despite their hectic schedules, and how they devote a lot of their time to the extracurricular stuff that makes them happy - mainly woodwork in Offerman's case and interior design for Mullally, and definitely music for both of them.

It's also interesting to learn about wider aspects of the pair's life. From their childhood, through teen romances and early career moves; family influences and relationships and the series of events that led to the two making as successful pairing as they have. All done with the typically jokey, informed yet never too serious style you'd expect from the duo. The photography throughout is also fabulously done and considered. A short, but really feel good quick read. One for the commute.
