"From out of the dark"

From Out Of The Dark

From out of the dark is a collection of 6 songs finished during the infamous Covid lockdown of 2020, drawing musical influences from many different genres and based on different themes close to my heart.

Some with a narrative, others about how I felt a particular junction in life, playing music, writing and recording songs has been a great outlet for me and helped me deal with and express myself in a productive fashion.

With no single genre over the six songs I decided to put them out as From out of the dark, to show how something good can come from the darkness. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed making them.

I appreciate so much all the friends and family who have helped critique these tracks ready for public consumption. Thanks also to my younger sister, Hannah, for providing her vocal talents and lyric writing on two of the songs.

Doctor Who: Cold Vengeance (The Tenth Doctor Adventures, #2.3)Doctor Who: Cold Vengeance by Matt Fitton

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

3rd entry in volume two of the Big Finish 10th Doctor Adventures series, staring Billie Piper as Rose Tyler, David Tennant as The Doctor and Nicholas Briggs as both Commander Slaan and the Ice Lord Hasskor.

The story is an enjoyable affair, having landed on a slowly defrosting freezer satellite, the Doctor and Rose discover space pirates have instigated the thaw attempting to solicit demands out of the station. As things become clearer, it seems that something altogether more sinister than frozen peas are hidden within the ice.

The Ice Warriors are a cool (sorry) enemy in the Doctor Who universe and this is a good story for them, if not particularly deep. It moves a long at a fairly good pace but has no real surprises or shocking revelations that I've grown to love from many extended universe Doctor Who stories.

That being said, this is more than made up for by the superb performances put on by the cast, especially the rasping menace portrayed by Briggs as the Ice Warriors. Piper and Tennant have their familiar chemistry, but also work well with the extended cast, their characters splitting up for part of the story.

I listened to this on the limited run HMV green vinyl which is a beautifully presented collectors piece, but this is also available on CD and download from the Big Finish website. Nothing ground breaking, but an enjoyable 10th Doctor story none the less.
