"From out of the dark"

From Out Of The Dark

From out of the dark is a collection of 6 songs finished during the infamous Covid lockdown of 2020, drawing musical influences from many different genres and based on different themes close to my heart.

Some with a narrative, others about how I felt a particular junction in life, playing music, writing and recording songs has been a great outlet for me and helped me deal with and express myself in a productive fashion.

With no single genre over the six songs I decided to put them out as From out of the dark, to show how something good can come from the darkness. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed making them.

I appreciate so much all the friends and family who have helped critique these tracks ready for public consumption. Thanks also to my younger sister, Hannah, for providing her vocal talents and lyric writing on two of the songs.

Rivers of London: Night WitchRivers of London: Night Witch by Ben Aaronovitch

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Second Graphic Novel from the expanded Rivers Of London series, The daughter of a powerful Russian oligarch has vanished from her home, apparently taken by a mythical forest creature fresh out of Russian legend. To 'encourage' Peter's cooperation in finding the missing child, his legendary boss Nightingale is kidnapped. As usual for the Rivers Of London series, nothing is as it seems, and a simple magical kidnapping becomes stranger when the kidnappers deliver a ransom note? Not usual for mythical creatures surely... It's up to Peter to uncover the mystery that is keeping Nightingale at bay with his kidnappers, working together with a series of interesting characters, including series staples such as Molly and Guleed, Russian magical practitioners and will Leslie show her face, or what's left of it, again?

Another excellent entry in the Rivers series, with fabulous, detailed artwork by Sullivan (Marvel) and Guerrero (Big Dog Ink) whilst the story work by Cartmel (Vinyl Detective) and Aaronovitch is superb as always. Again, don't snub this story as a graphic novel for kids, it's anything but and well deserves your attention. The little 'joke' stories at the end are a nice inclusion carried over from the first Rivers Graphic novel, and I hope continue in forthcoming collections.
