"From out of the dark"

From Out Of The Dark

From out of the dark is a collection of 6 songs finished during the infamous Covid lockdown of 2020, drawing musical influences from many different genres and based on different themes close to my heart.

Some with a narrative, others about how I felt a particular junction in life, playing music, writing and recording songs has been a great outlet for me and helped me deal with and express myself in a productive fashion.

With no single genre over the six songs I decided to put them out as From out of the dark, to show how something good can come from the darkness. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed making them.

I appreciate so much all the friends and family who have helped critique these tracks ready for public consumption. Thanks also to my younger sister, Hannah, for providing her vocal talents and lyric writing on two of the songs.

#RiversOfLondon #DetectiveStories by Ben Aaronovitch Graphic Novel mini spoiler free book review

Rivers of London, Volume 4: Detective StoriesRivers of London, Volume 4: Detective Stories by Ben Aaronovitch

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Another fab entry in the Rivers Of London canon in volume 4 of the graphic novels collection. The format is slightly different, in that for this collection it contains 4 standalone short stories, instead of one story over four issues. The mini comedic stories are spattered throughout rather than collected together at the end. I probably prefer the previous format, as I like getting my teeth into the slightly more detailed story, but the 4 on offer here still expand on the characters and themes within the Rivers Of London universe.

Peter Grant is undergoing his assessment to become a proper bonafide detective, and each story is Chief Inspector Chopra interviewing Peter about some of his case load. From cold case murders involving a medium, to unusual art heists where the art is returned to the museum, and even a more terrestrial case involving a virtual flasher, whatever one of those is, the ideas are creative, and meaty enough whilst still being accessible as short stories. It's nice having one none falcon case to know that even Peter has to go through the run of the mill jobs, sometimes.

Superb artwork again with appearances from most of the regular crew, this is definitely another one to excite fans of the series. Again, i'll say please don't pass it up because it's a graphic novel - the writing doesn't falter for this at all.
